Don's Bio

Don Hinson - Actor/Comedian/Emcee a young, a very very very very very young Don Hinson     The Don Hinson story began in the state of Oklahoma. It had to because that is where he was born and being born is about the best beginning any of us can have. Don’s early years in his native state were quite normal but as time passed he began to acquire more than his share of frustrations and soon became a neurotic. Now, many people develop frustrations, the difference is that Don knows how to have fun with them. He has the ability to see the funny side of things that matter and the serious side of things that don’t matter.

It’s obvious that Don doesn’t see things the way the rest of us do...his view of the world is just a little off center. This viewpoint helped him give birth to characters like: The Reverend Ginkfingdingler...Sophie Jutemill...Harley Breadsacker...Leroy Lipmuscle....and on and on. With his off center sense of humor and his cast of characters it was only a matter of time until he found himself in Los Angeles, California. Equally at home in front of a television or motion picture camera, theaters, clubs or concert stages, he worked them all. As if this wasn’t enough he also spent 18 years on KLAC. KLAC Radio - Los Angeles During that time KLAC was the #1 country music station in Southern California and for 8 years was voted the #1 country station in the nation by the ACM.

Don was cited by the City of Los Angeles for his work with the Walk of Western Stars and again for his “achievements in the world of country music.” For his contributions to the field of entertainment he was presented the Bronze Halo Award from the Southern California Motion Picture Council, plus numerous awards for his charitable work. The Country Music Organizations of America presented him with the Comedian of the year award in 1998. That same organization in 2000 presented him their Lifetime Achievement Award and inducted him into the Hall of Fame.

Don & Rosemary Clooney     Audiences have enjoyed the Hinson humor on his five comedy albums as well as appearances on Showtime, CMT, NBC, Lifetime, Disney and sharing the stage live with The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Rita Coolidge, George Strait, Martina McBride, Merle Haggard, Rosemary Clooney, Johnny Cash, Barbara Mandrell, Vince Gill and the list goes on....and on. Don & his cast of characters now call Branson, Missouri home but at the drop of a hat, will take his off center humor wherever. He still loves the road.

As a critic once said, summing up Don Hinson,
“THE HINSON HUMOR IS AS OLD AS THE SMILING MASK OF THE GREEK THEATER, OR AS NEW AS THE LATEST HEADLINE ON A SUPERMARKET TABLOID”

ad for Don's first paid show.

This is a newspaper add from my first night club appearance. It lasted one day. There was a drunk at the back of the room who was far funnier than I.
